For over twenty years, I have dedicated myself to serving our wonderful City of Santa Clara, including the last eight years representing you on the city council. Having recently retired as a high school mathematics and computer science teacher, my heart has always been with our community's future. Whether I was in the classroom guiding students, starting and coaching the Wilcox Robotics Teams, or working to protect our natural resources as the vice chair of the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency, my focus has always been on delivering practical, real-world solutions. I am running because my commitment to Santa Clara runs deep, and I want to bring my decades of hands-on experience as an educator, leader, and public servant to continue working hard for all of us.
Here in Santa Clara, we currently have more than 55 data centers. I know that many of our residents have deep questions and genuine concerns about how these facilities are affecting our daily quality of life. Our community's well-being must always be our top priority. That is why I am calling for a moratorium on any new data centers. We need to pause and ensure these critical questions are fully answered before we move forward with any more. I want to make sure our voices are heard and our quality of life is protected. Let's get the answers we need first.
As we look to the future of our city, our top priority must be maintaining and updating our aging infrastructure. To me, infrastructure is a city's most important responsibility. Water and sewer services are absolutely vital to our daily lives, because truly, water is life. I believe we must always deliver these essential services reliably, with the highest quality, and at a fair price for every resident. This isn't just a policy goal for me; it is my area of expertise. I currently serve on our water and sewer board, and my background as a chemical engineer gives me the practical experience to continue this work for our community.
Years ago, I served on the citizen’s board that fought against our city owning a stadium. We lost that fight, but I believe in facing our challenges with practical, common-sense solutions. Once the stadium became a reality, I took a hands-on approach to ensure it works for us, focusing on making Levi's Stadium as profitable as possible. That is why I have pushed for more concerts and soccer matches. These events have been highly successful, and they help the stadium function well. I will always focus on what is practical and beneficial for our community, making sure our city assets are run responsibly and deliver the very best results for all of us.
In the 1960s, our old downtown and its beautiful Victorian buildings were demolished. Because of that decision, we have gone without a proper downtown for far too long. I believe it is incredibly important to change this, and that is why I am focused on rebuilding. If elected, I will work directly with developers to build a new downtown that our community can finally call home. This project is about restoring what we lost and creating a central place for all of us to gather and connect. Let's work together to bring back the heart of our community and build a downtown we can all be proud of.
